The Michelin Pilot Sport Experience is an annual event at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, where participants drive real race cars under professional guidance. Together with TBWA\Singapore, we created Right 2 Race, an online game that served as the virtual qualification for the event. It first ran in 2014 across Southeast Asia and Australia, and returned in 2015.
OBJECTIVE
The Michelin Pilot Sport Experience is an annual event at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, where participants drive real race cars under professional guidance. Together with TBWA\Singapore, we created Right 2 Race, an online game that served as the virtual qualification for the event. We launched it in 2014 across Southeast Asia and Australia, and brought it back with new gameplay in 2015.
EXECUTION
Right 2 Race is a touch-based race-planning game built on real racing data from professional drivers. Players set their racing line and braking points around a digital version of Sepang, aiming for the fastest possible lap.
Then their lap came to life. Every possible racing line had been filmed on location at Sepang. Based on the player’s choices, the game stitched together the matching video fragments into a driver’s-eye view of their race, complete with commentary.
For the 2015 edition, we repurposed the game. Challenges were overlaid during the lap, testing not just how well players planned their race, but also how fast they could react.
RESULT
The fastest players from each country were flown to Sepang to drive Formula 4, rally and cup cars. One 2014 winner went on to become overall champion of the Michelin Pilot Sport Experience and won a trip to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
